The Carlyle Group Names Luiz Viana Senior Advisor to South America Buyout Team

Sao Paulo, Brazil – Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group announced today that Luiz Antonio Viana has joined the firm as a Senior Advisor to the South America Buyout team. Mr. Viana will use his 35 years of executive, operational and investment experience to help Carlyle source investment opportunities, manage current investments and advise portfolio company management. Fernando Borges, Managing Director of the Carlyle South America Buyout team, said, “We believe Luiz’s proven operational and management skills, developed through many years as CEO and Board member of top Brazilian companies in a range of industries, will contribute to our investment decision process and add value to our portfolio companies. He will counsel Carlyle’s investment professionals on new business initiatives and investment strategy, as well as assist in the recruitment of new employees, consultants and directors for the boards of Carlyle portfolio companies. Mr. Viana is also expected to serve on the Board of Directors of Carlyle’s South American portfolio companies. Mr. Viana is a Board Advisor of Localfrio and serves on the Board of the Museum of Modern Arts. He is also a Board Member of Iochpe-Maxion, Brazil’s largest manufacturer of wheels and frames for commercial vehicles, railway freight cars and castings. His 35 years of experience include serving as CEO at Grupo Pao de Acucar, Petrobras Distribuidora – BR, Net Servicos and Makro Atacadista.
