The Carlyle Group Names Mary Petrovich Senior Advisor to Industrial and Transportation Group

Washington, DC – Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today announced that Mary Petrovich, former Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Carlyle portfolio company AxleTech, has joined the firm as Senior Advisor to its Industrial and Transportation Group. As Senior Advisor, Ms. Petrovich will provide strategic guidance to Carlyle professionals throughout the investment process, from sourcing to purchase, and advise portfolio company executives on management, operational and growth strategies. She joins a group of 23 senior executives who serve as Carlyle Senior Advisors across a spectrum of industries. I look forward to continuing to work with Carlyle to find these opportunities and capitalize on them.” Ms. Petrovich was named Chief Executive Officer of AxleTech in 2002, brought in from the outside to run the business when Wynnchurch Capital purchased it from Arvin Meritor. Carlyle subsequently purchased AxleTech in 2005 and sold it to General Dynamics in 2008. Ms. Petrovich drove aggressive growth and significant cost restructuring at the company, achieving a 25x increase in EBITDA during her tenure. During this time she implemented global sourcing to achieve material cost reductions, launched an aftermarket business, repositioned the company’s military business, renegotiated UAW contracts and completed three strategic acquisitions. Prior to her work at AxleTech, Ms. Petrovich was the President of the Driver Controls Business Unit at Dura Automotive. Previously, she was a Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Purchasing, Director of Manufacturing, Plant Manager and Director of Cost Management at AlliedSignal. She also was a finance manager at Chrysler. Ms. Petrovich earned her MBA from Harvard Business School and her BSE from the University of Michigan.
