Carlyle launches renewable energy development platform Telis Energy in Europe

  • Telis Energy will be led by Adrien Pinsard, an industry veteran with more than 16 years renewables experience
  • Telis will develop and partner on high-quality renewable energy projects in Europe, leveraging Carlyle’s renewables and sustainable energy expertise

London, United Kingdom, 15 November, 2022 - Global Investment firm Carlyle (NASDAQ: CG) today announced the launch of Telis Energy (“Telis”), a newly created renewables platform to develop renewable energy projects, with a focus on solar, in the UK, France, Spain, and Germany, with a view to expand to other markets in Europe.

Headquartered in London, Telis will develop and partner on high-quality renewable energy projects and seeks to play a significant role in the European energy transition, with a target project pipeline of more than 10GW in place by 2030. Telis will be led by CEO Adrien Pinsard, an industry veteran with more than 16 years of experience managing and building renewable energy businesses across Europe. Alongside his leadership team, he will be responsible for identifying, planning, and executing on development and investment opportunities for Telis.

Carlyle sees renewables as core to its infrastructure strategy and seeks to capture the significant opportunities globally. In 2021, Carlyle launched Copia Power, a large-scale renewable development platform in the US, which will start construction on more than 1GW of projects in 2023 and has accumulated a pipeline of more than 16GW under development.

Telis’ launch builds on the strong momentum behind renewables investment and development and Carlyle’s experience in this sector. Since December 2018, Carlyle has deployed approximately $1.2 billion globally into renewable assets, such as solar and wind, as of September 30, 2022.

Adrien Pinsard, CEO of Telis Energy, said: “In launching Telis, we have the ambition of developing a renewable energy platform and sustainability player. Backed by the Telis’s team’s market knowledge and development capabilities, we look forward to executing on a robust pipeline and identifying further opportunities as energy security needs accelerate the adoption of renewable energy. The formation of Telis reflects Carlyle’s continued commitment to renewable energy opportunity and innovation in global decarbonization efforts and we look forward to harnessing their local insights and global experience.”

Pooja Goyal, Chief Investment Officer of Carlyle's Infrastructure Group, said: “The launch of Telis demonstrates Carlyle’s confidence in Europe’s renewables sector and the significant role it will play in our broader infrastructure strategy. Leveraging Carlyle’s experience, we believe Telis is well positioned to capture emerging opportunities in solar, and other renewables segments, across European markets, benefitting from increased buyer demand for scalable and well-supported development platforms. We are excited by the opportunity to work towards accelerating the development of utility scale sustainable infrastructure on a truly global scale.”
