The Carlyle Group Names Nader Sultan as Senior Advisor to Carlyle MENA Partners, L.P.; Energy Industry Veteran Brings 33 Years of Operational Experience to the Firm

Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today named Nader H. Sultan Senior Advisor to Carlyle’s Middle East North Africa (MENA) team.

Mr. Sultan will help identify investments, business opportunities and trends particularly in the energy sector in the Middle East and North Africa region. Carlyle MENA Partners, L.P. a $500 million fund, invests primarily in healthy, growing companies. From offices in Cairo, Dubai and Istanbul, the team of 12 investment professionals leverages Carlyle’s expertise in various sectors, including energy, financial services, healthcare, industrial, infrastructure, technology and transportation.

Mr. Sultan worked for 33 years in the Kuwait oil industry, and was the Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). Previously, he also served as Deputy Chairman and MD of Planning in KPC.

From 1993 until 2005, Mr. Sultan was a non-executive board member of Santa Fe International, which subsequently merged into Global Santa Fe, a publicly-listed drilling company in the United States.

Mr. Sultan is currently a Senior Partner in F+N Consultancy, a firm specializing in high-level strategic advice related to the energy industry. He is also the Director of the Oxford Energy Seminar at St. Catherine's College, Oxford University, the Non-Executive Chairman of Ikarus Petroleum Holdings, and the Deputy Chairman of Stehwaz Holdings. He also currently serves on the Advisory Board of Riverstone Holdings LLC, the Board of AlMadar Finance and Investment, the Supervisory Board of the Al-Markaz Energy Fund, and on the International Advisory Board of Dana Gas.

Mr. Sultan was educated at King’s School, Gloucester and earned a B.S. in economics from the University of London.
