Biometrics Success Leads Fujitsu Siemens Computers to Add AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensors to 8 New Notebook and Tablet PCs; Company Offers Broadest Range of Biometric PCs in Europe, Middle East and Africa

2006-015pc

Melbourne, FL/ Munich, Germany - Building on the success of its first biometric PC last year, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has added the advanced security and convenience of AuthenTec fingerprint sensors to eight notebook and tablet PCs - the broadest range of biometric PCs in Europe.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers again selected the EntréPad 2501A from AuthenTec -- the world leader in fingerprint sensor security, innovation and sales - for its new STYLISTIC ST5032 tablet PC and different models of LIFEBOOK Series; S7110, E8110, E8210, , P7120, P1510, T4210 and Q2010 , as well as to the CESLIUS H240 mobile workstation. Fujitsu Siemens Computers introduced its first biometrics tablet PC, the STYLISTIC ST5022, with an AuthenTec sensor in 2005.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers combined AuthenTec's sensor with the SmartCase Logon+ authentication software to give users even more advanced security, convenience and touch-controlled features that can be enabled by the simple swipe of their finger. The combination of this software and the sensor offers the user Operating System logon and Single Sign-On, which enables a single swipe to any application. For added convenience, the Fujitsu Siemens PCs also have a unique feature that allows users to slide their finger up or down across the sensor to authenticate. This feature is especially important for tablet PCs and convertible notebooks like the STYLISTIC ST5022, ST5032, LIFEBOOK P1510 and T4210 because it enables users to authenticate with the sensor in the most convenient position.

AuthenTec's EntréPad is the most popular sensor for notebook and tablet PCs worldwide. The sensor reduces the risk of PC theft and fraud -- allowing authorized users to easily and quickly access their files by simply touching or sliding their finger across the sensor surface, while restricting access to the computer and its files to only those enrolled. AuthenTec sensors also make PCs easier to use - eliminating the need to remember cumbersome passwords. With the simple swipe of a finger, users can log onto their computer, quickly open applications, switch desktop applications, or scroll through menus.

The sensor features AuthenTec's extremely accurate TruePrint and TrueMatch technologies, the only solution in production that reads fingerprints below the surface of the skin - enabling the sensor to read virtually every fingerprint, anywhere. In combination with AuthenTec's sensor, Fujitsu Siemens Computers' SmartCaseT Logon+ also helps to protect the user's vital biometric information by storing encrypted fingerprint pattern data directly on the Smart-Card or computer itself, rather than actual fingerprint images that are sent over the internet or stored on a central database.

"Fujitsu Siemens Computers mobile devices stand for world class technology and products that serve genuine and relevant customer needs like convenience and security while traveling", said Andreas Thimmel, Vice President Business Clients at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "Fingerprint biometrics from AuthenTec are an extremely accurate and reliable way to protect the user's identity, therefore we are integrating the solution in all of our premium systems."

"We are proud that Fujitsu Siemens Computers has again selected AuthenTec, and is taking a leading role in adopting biometric fingerprint sensors directly into such a wide range of notebook and tablet PCs," said Marc Gebert, head of AuthenTec's European operations. "Fujitsu Siemens continued selection of AuthenTec' reaffirms the advanced security and convenience that our family of fingerprint sensors provides at the simple swipe of a finger. "
