The Carlyle Group Appoints Robert Maguire Managing Director for Carlyle International Energy Partners

With 30 years’ Experience in the Energy Industry in Banking and Private Equity, Mr. Maguire Will Help Grow Carlyle’s International Energy Platform


London, UK – Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) today announced the appointment of Robert Maguire as Managing Director for Carlyle International Energy Partners (CIEP). Mr Maguire brings 30 years of experience covering the energy industry, most recently as a Partner at financial services firm Perella Weinberg Partners.  Mr. Maguire joins the firm in March and will be based in London, UK.


Head of Carlyle International Energy Partners, Marcel van Poecke said, “We are excited to welcome Bob to the team, having worked with him previously on a variety of projects.  Since launching the fund in May 2013, we have made two investments. Bob will help us create value from these investments, while also working to identify further opportunities.”

The international energy team focuses on oil and gas exploration and production (E&P), midstream, oil field services (OFS) and refining and marketing (R&M) in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia.


The international energy team is a key component of Carlyle’s global energy platform ($28 billion in AUM), which includes a strategic partnership with NGP Energy Capital Management (E&P investing in North America); energy mezzanine financing; energy infrastructure & power generation (Cogentrix); commodities (Vermillion); and the firm’s proven buyout capabilities in transactions such as Philadelphia Energy Solutions and Kinder Morgan.


Prior to Perella Weinberg Partners, Mr. Maguire worked for 21 years as an investment banker covering the energy industry for Morgan Stanley in London, during which time he was involved in many of the largest financing and strategic transactions within the sector.


Mr. Maguire 58, holds an A.B. from Princeton University, and MA from Oxford University, and a JD from the University of Virginia.
