Carlyle Group Secures 7000 sq m of Lettings in Globen City, Stockholm

2009-060a

Stockholm – Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group (“Carlyle”) announces today the letting of approximately 7000 square meters of space at its Globen City office and retail scheme close to Stockholm, Sweden. The lettings, which are to both new and existing tenants, follow Carlyle’s recent announcement that it had leased 30,000 sq m of space across its Nordic portfolio.

The new tenants at Globen City include Kraft & Kultur, an electricity company that supplies renewable energy to households, companies and municipalities, which has taken 923 sq m of office space. Another two tenants are Psoriasisförbundet, an association of people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and the leading Scandinavian beer importer, Galatea Spiritis, which are occupying 520 sq m and 490 sq m of office space respectively.

Globen City has a total of approximately 88 000 sq m of office space and, with these latest lettings which reduced the vacancy rate by around 2%, is now 90% occupied. Since Carlyle acquired Globen City in August 2007 it has been working on a number of developments and improvements to the property. These have helped Carlyle attract a large number of new tenants to Globen City and improve its occupancy level from 84% at the time of acquisition.

Globen City is to the south of Stockholm and is located in a strategic area for both offices and retail, with good communications links to the city. The area also close to the Ericsson Globe, the well-known national arena which hosts many of Stockholm’s big sporting events and concerts. Today, approximately 5,000 people work in Globen City and the area has more than 10,000 visitors daily.

Commenting, Anders Hörnqvist, Property Director at The Carlyle Group said: “In spite of the tough rental market that has characterized the industry over the past year, we see the fact that we have been able to attract so many new tenants to Globen and reduce the vacancy rate as a strong endorsement of our strategy for the building and the quality of the product on offer.”
