Jack E. Golden Joins Board of Directors of Cobalt International Energy, L.P.

Houston, TX – Cobalt International Energy, L.P., an oil and gas exploration and production company with funding from investors including Carlyle/Riverstone, Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, and KERN Partners, today announced that Jack E. Golden has joined the Board of Directors of Cobalt.


Joseph H. Bryant, Cobalt Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are fortunate to have someone with Jack’s industry experience join Cobalt’s Board. Jack will play an important role in evaluating and advising us on our strategic, financial and operating goals and will be a tremendous asset to Cobalt as we continue to establish ourselves as a major player in the E&P arena."


Mr. Golden said, "I’m excited to join Cobalt’s Board and be associated with such an impressive team of industry veterans."


After earning his PhD. in Physics Mr. Golden joined Shell in 1977 later joining BP in 1982. He held numerous executive positions in North America including President of BP’s North American E&P business. For much of the last decade he served as Group Vice President - Exploration and Production. During this period he was involved with the development and operation of BP's business in North America, Europe, South America, West Africa and Russia. Mr. Golden retired from BP at the beginning of 2006.
