Michael Arpey Joins The Carlyle Group as Managing Director; Responsible for Fund Formation Strategy, New Investor Products and Coordination of Investor Relations

Washington, DC – Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group announced that Michael “Mike” W. Arpey today joined the firm as Managing Director and member of the Operating Committee. In this new position, Mr. Arpey will oversee new fund formation and the development of new products for investors, and coordinate Carlyle’s global investor relations team. He is based in Washington, DC.


Mr. Arpey joins Carlyle from Credit Suisse where he was Managing Director and Co-Head of the Customized Fund Investment Group (CFIG), the private equity fund of funds business within Alternative Investments, which manages $26 billion of assets on behalf of its clients.

Mr. Arpey joined Credit Suisse in 2000. Prior to that he was Head of Private Equity Investment for Prudential Insurance Company of America where he managed $3 billion of private equity holdings from various teams in Asia, Latin America, Central Europe and the U.S. From 1995-1999, Mr. Arpey was Counsel and Director of Alternative Investments for The New York Common Retirement Fund where he managed a $7 billion private equity portfolio. Prior to that, from 1990-1995, he was a trustee for the Pennsylvania Public School Employee Retirement System and the State Employee Retirement System. Mr. Arpey began his career as an Associate at Tucker Arensberg PC in Pittsburgh.


Mr. Arpey earned his B.A. from St. Lawrence University and his J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law.
