The National Association of Investment Companies Honors The Carlyle Group’s Mark Johnson with the 2011 Award of Excellence

Washington, DC – The National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC) today announced that Mark Johnson of The Carlyle Group received its 2011 Award of Excellence. The annual award honors individuals those who have demonstrated extraordinary personal achievement in their career and have made outstanding contributions through influence or direct actions to the promotion and benefit of minority business ownership. Johnson received the award yesterday at NAIC’s 41st Annual Meeting and Convention in Palm Beach, Fla. Samuel J. Boyd, Jr., NAIC President and CEO, said, “Mark is the ideal recipient of NAIC’s most coveted award, The Award of Excellence and NAIC is very pleased to honor him as such. His success in investment banking and private equity, is of the highest quality.” Mr. Johnson is a Principal on Carlyle’s U.S. Buyout team. He has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry during which he has been involved in the investment of more than $2.7 billion of equity in leveraged buyout, growth equity and venture capital transactions. As a senior member of Carlyle’s telecommunications and media practice, Mr. Johnson is responsible for sourcing, executing and managing leveraged buyouts and growth equity investments in the communications and business services sectors globally. Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Princeton University and earned his M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.
