Stephen Coats Joins Riverstone Holdings LLC

New York– Riverstone Holdings LLC, a private equity firm specializing exclusively in the energy and power sectors, announced today that Stephen Coats has joined as a Managing Director and as General Counsel, a new position. Mr. Coats joins Riverstone from the law firm Vinson & Elkins L.L.P., where he was a partner.

Mr. Coats, 37, has extensive experience in the energy industry. While at Vinson & Elkins, a firm specializing in the energy sector, Mr. Coats focused on domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions and divestitures work. He has also served as outside counsel to Riverstone in several transactions.

Mr. Coats received a B.A. in government from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993 and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1997. He is licensed to practice law in both the State of New York and the State of Texas
